- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
For the Bread Pudding:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the stale bread cubes and milk. Allow the bread to soak for about 10-15 minutes until it absorbs most of the liquid.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour the egg mixture over the soaked bread cubes and gently fold until the bread is evenly coated. Add raisins or currants if desired.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
- While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the vanilla sauce.
For the Vanilla Sauce:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
To Serve:
- Allow the bread pudding to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm squares of bread pudding drizzled with the warm vanilla sauce.
- Optionally, you can garnish with a dusting of powdered sugar or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
