Homemade Condensed Milk


  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)


1. Combine Milk and Sugar:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and granulated sugar over medium heat.

2. Dissolve Sugar:

  • Stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves into the milk. Do not let the mixture come to a boil at this stage.

3. Simmer:

  • Once the sugar is dissolved, reduce the heat to low. Allow the milk and sugar mixture to simmer gently. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

4. Reduce and Thicken:
