Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water + sugar + yeast.
  2. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture.
  2. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead by hand 8–10 minutes (or 5 minutes with a mixer) until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

  1. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl.
  2. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Bread

  1. Punch down the dough.
  2. Shape into a loaf or round bread.
  3. Place on a baking tray or in a loaf pan.

Step 5: Second Rise

  1. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.

Step 6: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Bread should sound hollow when tapped.
